Trivago is wasting their money with an awful ad campaign in the US. I reached out to the Marketing Department, and have not received a reply.
I travel quite a bit and use a few different platforms, apps and tools. I advise others on travel and am often asked what tools I use for booking travel. I am well within the target audience for Trivago.
Based on their awful ad, I would never use them.

I was led to believe I was booking directly through the hotel and it was not labeled Trivago.after calling and making reservation my message from them said Trivago. My daughter to.d me she got a much lower rate going directly through the hotel.I told her I was duped because it looked like I was going directly through the hotel.I also said I may want to cancel at the ti e and they said I could but added an additional 7 dollars to my reservation.I canceled and when I called to cancel they said they were adding another additional fee.what a deceptive and horrible business.Yoy get a higher rate and they rip people off.Do not use them.

Bait and switch
January 14, 2024

They advertise a price and clearly state that the reservation is cancelable. Click on link, enter CC info, get a confirmation that reservation is non refundable. They hide behind the booking company and they're not responsible for the change in terms. Complete BS of a business model. There's a reason that they've been fined by governments for fraud. Only by stopping using them, will they go away for good.

Poor rating Trivago
November 11, 2023

They would not refund or change the dates of my hotel stay. They don't really mean cancel the reservation 24 hours before. I will never use trivago again. I will call the Hotel and make my reservation.

I looked for hotels in Barcelona and only half of the suggested hotels are actually in Barcelona. Why can normal sites like booking do this but trivago can't?

OMG
March 10, 2023

I will put this up front- DO NOT USE THIS POS COMPANY. This company is like a subcontractor for companies that book rooms for people- They do have not a quick support structure. This company could care less that you get what you paid for or you get anything- they will say don't speak with us speak to the company you booked with- and if you think customer support is better with the subcontractors you a dead wrong- The are no better, I could see that they might not care if I was just booking a room at the motel 7 but i was booking at a 5-star resort in Fla. Just call the resort you want to book as they for the best rate and save yourself a ton of money.

Price is different when you are going to book. What is the use of a comparing site when prices are not correct shown on Trivago. It's not the booking site. Prices on Booking and Agora are mostly 2 or 3 times the price shown on Trivago when you click on the Trivago price.

No savings
August 9, 2022

I used Trivago to stay at a Days Inn in Ontario Canada. I booked for 2 nights then decided to stay an extra night. I paid the motel directly for the extra night. When I checked my credit card statement I found there was no difference in price. Which begs the question, why not just book directly with the motel/hotel yourself?

The commercial that shows someone getting a better rte on check out than someone else on Hulu is annoying. Obnoxious and would cause me NEVER EVER to use Trivago. Crap Ad, Crap service.

Ripped off
May 10, 2022

Booked a room with Days Inn Wyndham Effingham Illinois. The event we were going to attend ( FUNFEST) canceled all but one day for event. We called and canceled our hotel reservations for September 14th through 18th of 2022 on May 10th 2022. We have just given that money to someone because we cannot get a refund. We should have called and booked directly, ended up costing us much more than we would have saved going through this company. Very dishonest! Lesson learned!

When we checked in and entered our room, there was a mess! Half full trash bins, half used conditioner left besides the sink, used toilet paper roll on the floor under the sink,...
My sister in the shower found out that there was no shampoo at all... only conditioners and body shampoos! Shouldn't have they checked that before we checked in?!
Only two really small elevators, so that we had to wait for so long each time, that My sister and I preferred to use the steps like the hotel staff most of the time!
The terrible point was that most of the staff, I can say 80 percent, had no face masks on (unless in the restaurant) even in the elevator which was worrying corona wise!
A few times I found dirty plates and cups in self-service restaurant of the hotel at breakfast!
We got along with all defects at the hotel for three nights and then the worst thing happened to us on our last day stay at the hotel! We had booked a three bed room but when I told them that there was a problem in the restroom (from the first day, each time we took a shower the floor was full of water) they asked us to move to a two bed room in a hurry "in ten minutes" in order to fix the leaking pipe! I told them that we were three people and they said they would add one extra bed to our room... It was 10 a. M! We were about to leave the hotel at 1 p. M and I reminded them at the reception desk to add an extra bed to our room and the receptionist took a note to do that! We got back to the hotel at 10 p.m... still no extra bed in the room! Called the reception, went down to them... each time he said I will sort it out in ten minutes! NOTHING happened and even no reply from them till 11:10 p. M when I was really angry and the receptionist told me they had no bed to add to our room and we could sleep on the sofa although we had paid for three beds!
I wanted to talk to the manager or his boss which he refused to call them... in the end after more than thirteen hours and getting angry with them and going up and down for 1:30 hours... a mattress on the floor for the third person to sleep on!
Such a great five star hotel in Istanbul! :((

His partner is a bad-mannered man with no appreciation of good customers.
Good food, good servers.

Trivago is running a scam by showing lower rates for hotel bookings. It shows you a lower rate... you are happy & excited and make the booking.
Two methodologies:

1. Through Snaptravel.com: You will be shown a lower rate. In the fine print, they will mention that the hotel will charge you xxx amount. It will be seemingly harmless as if a part of amount shown for the booking will be collected by the hotel. THAT IS NOT RIGHT - YOU WILL PAY THE AMOUNT SHOWN ON THE WEBSITE + THE FINE PRINT AMOUNT. You will pay 200% of the amount you were supposed to pay.

2. Through Hilton Advanced Purchase: Will show you lower amount. You make the booking. If you want to make any change, there is only one way to get it done, Hilton's advance purchase team on 800 number. You can camp on this number for hours, days, months, years... no body will pick up the number because you will just hear the "hold music" and get frustrated. There is no Advance purchase team. If you call different Hilton numbers - HONORS, GUEST SERVICES, CALL BACK, poor team members can only demonstrate helplessness. HILTON: PLEASE DO NOT SPOIL YOUR REPUTATION

BEWARE DO NOT MAKE ANY BOOKINGS THROUGH TRIVAGO BECAUSE THERE IS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE REP TO HELP, IF YOU ARE STUCK ANY WAY.

After hours of searching we finally found a nice deal and decided to do the booking. I received the booking ID number and Trip number. They send me an email saying that they had receive our money and they would send an email of confirmation shortly. But for our big disappointment on the next day I received an email saying: " The hotel has informed us that the booking you made at the rate at which you purchased it was booked by someone else just a few seconds before you. We tried to find other rooms at the hotel at the same rate but unfortunately, there are no rooms available and we have had to refund you."
What a bul$&@" :(( (((( as they still had the same rate when I checked after ready my email. It means that they don't update the website properly and you can lose a good deal in other reliable website while you will be waiting until they cancel booking!
It was the first time and for sure the LAST time I have used this crap website!
Ps. We still didn't get our money back after more than 24 hours waiting :(( ((
