After months of using Wise for legitimate business transactions in Estonia, they suddenly froze and then closed my account without any valid explanation.
They kept company funds for weeks, claiming "compliance checks," even though I provided every possible document — contracts, invoices, and statements — proving the legitimacy of my transactions.
Then, unbelievably, Wise demanded bank statements from my own clients, which is a clear violation of privacy and EU data protection laws (GDPR).
Since when do the "internal policies" of a private company stand above European law?
This is an absolute abuse of power, and a disgrace to what is supposed to be a regulated financial institution.
Their compliance department hides behind anonymous emails, refuses to give clear answers, and shows no respect for due process, transparency, or business continuity.
They have caused serious financial harm to my company's liquidity and reputation.
Where are the regulatory authorities that should protect businesses from this kind of arbitrary and abusive behaviour?
Wise's conduct is not only unethical — it is deeply alarming for any business operating legitimately within the EU.
This institution is absolutely not recommended.
Their actions prove that Wise is unreliable, unaccountable, and unsafe for serious businesses.
I have already escalated the case to the Estonian Financial Supervisory Authority (Finantsinspektsioon) and encourage others to do the same if they experience similar treatment.

As a recent immigrant, I explored cryptocurrency to grow my savings responsibly. An individual contacted me, claiming expertise in Bitcoin investments with guaranteed weekly returns. They cited success with other immigrants in Canada, shared convincing charts, screenshots, and offered video calls to build trust.
I cautiously invested $500 initially, then $1,500, and later $50,000. The platform they provided showed my funds growing weekly, appearing legitimate. However, when I attempted to withdraw, I was pressured to pay additional "unlock fees," "transfer fees," and "account clearance" costs. After sending more money, the individual vanished, leaving me devastated with a loss of nearly $350,000 CAD—my entire savings. The shame of this loss made it difficult to share with my family.
I reported the scam to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and my local police, though recovery seemed unlikely. Fortunately, I discovered C/O/N/Q/U/A/E/R/O/./C/O and her exceptional team through a Reddit post. Their professional, empathetic approach—without false promises—helped recover my funds, restoring some hope.
To newcomers around the World: Exercise extreme caution with unsolicited investment offers. Scammers prey on our aspirations to build a better future. Always verify credentials, ask critical questions, and never invest through unsolicited contacts. Protect your hard-earned money.

Wise used to be a good company - automating processes, saving money for the consumers, responding to customer inquiries with genuine concern, etc. No longer is that the case, because of one simple fact: they no longer know how to deal with customers and provide service.
Recently, I wanted to add a second US ACH Bank account to my profile, but there is no way to do it. This is a Vanguard CashPlus account (administered by PNC but can't log in through PNC). So I sent an email asking how to do it since instant verification through Plaid will fail. And instead of fixing their systems, they just put me on the merry-go-round of approximately 10 emails. Even after sending them many screenshots showing there is NO option they refer to, they insist on my having to call them. I asked them to send me the screenshots showing where the option they refer to is, and their response: We don't send screenshots. We are WISE. I felt like they must have "Wise über alles" as their company anthem and song.
Anyway, the way forward is simple: reduce the dependence on Wise and eliminate it as time goes by. Good luck Wise and good tidings.

I was trying to set up an account. I could not fill in anything past my name after I was required to show proof of my ID. So I emailed scans of both back and front. UNACCEPTABLE! Wise only accepts photos of ID taken by phone--you know, that easily hackable thing that your phone company already has access to all your data? You know, the thing your phone company might already be selling or posting your information from? You know, the thing you DON'T want to take pictures of private information on? I set up a live chat. I got nothing up bot answers, so I assued it was a bot. The were only tree replies, not matter how I framed the question, including why I should use the least safe version short of posting the information online and sendign a link to the picture. I got the same answers no matter what. Since htey copied and pasted answers, I did too. I copied wha thtey said and replaced it with wha actually made sense--the poneis too vulnrable and every single otehr site accepts emailed photos. After 5 replies I got a non-bot answer. 'I will end this chat if you contunue to use that kind of language'. I pointed out I was usignthe exact kind of language they were using (I was, after all--I was copying their exact phrases and just replacing bad words with good ones). I said I corrected them and tha's what happens in real life. Tehy ended the chat after saying they would not tolerate abuse. I was sent an email from teh company saying they have 0 tolerance for abusing customer service. How did these people get throght shcool? If you say '2+2=7' you'll be corrected, no matter how many times you repeat it. Were they mad they couldn't pass first grade and made a company around that?

I spoke to Victoria at Wise who was clueless and just short in providing any information. Wise don't inform their customer when a transfer don't get process when they have any technical issue on their end (e.g., with the bank partner or other internal issues). They claim that they are fast, secure but I am not seeing that. When you call the customer service, they are clueless and don't know anything; if you ask to talk to a manager apparently they don't have one as they manage themselves (hard to believe). They have no idea what's going on or what's the next step. Victoria seems to be bothered to be answering the call which makes the entire interaction very painful. In addition when probed she said that they send email notification but when pressed (after mentioning that you guys record these calls) she start backtracking and said we send email only when it's processed. In limbo now.

First, about myself and my situation: I am creating a social movement to help people. I want to change the world while I have the chance. I was born in america but I moved to mexico and became a mexican citizen. I spent years trying to find a good money transfer company that would fit my needs for my situation and wise.com has been a perfect match for me so far. Regarding the business, wise.com was founded by Estonians Taavet Hinrikus, Skype's first employee, and Kristo Käärmann in 2010 with the vision of revolutionizing the way money transfers are done, making them faster and eliminating hidden fees. Comparing them to other services, I think they achieved their goal.
I've been using wise.com for about 10 years now and I have never had the problems with them that I experienced with other transfer companies. I remember with other companies sometimes they had delayed transfers and often I would be the victim of random security checks and I often felt I was being treated from a baseline of suspicion even though my transfers are the most benign you can imagine. But I never felt that from wise.com. They always treated me with respect. And they have the lowest fees, the easiest to use website and the best customer service.

I have been using WISE services for three years. Recently, I received a notification requiring me to update my personal information, and at the same time, transactions on my account were blocked.

For three weeks, I tried to resolve this issue but encountered only automated responses from customer support. During this period, I submitted nearly a dozen documents to WISE, including bank statements, paid bills, certificates, and copies of my passport—everything that could confirm my identity and residential address, which has remained unchanged throughout my years of using the service.

After WISE received and verified all my personal data, they effectively refused to unblock my account without providing a clear explanation. In the end, the company collected a maximum amount of my confidential information but refused to continue providing financial services to me.

I consider such actions highly unethical. WISE shows a blatant disregard for its customers by blocking access to their funds under the pretext of "data updates," forcing them to submit personal information, only to ultimately deny service. This raises a reasonable concern: how and for what purpose is this personal data being used if the service itself fails to fulfill its obligations?

Be cautious when using WISE—your account may be blocked without explanation, after they have collected all your personal information.

I have been using Wise for over two years as an Egyptian living in the UK, relying on them for all my financial transactions. However, out of the blue, Wise closed my account without any notice and froze all my funds, leaving me in financial distress. I had over £3,000 in my account, and instead of giving me immediate access to my own money, they told me I would have to wait 30 days for a refund!
To make matters worse, when I filed a complaint, they said they would respond in 15 days—which is completely unacceptable. Their lack of transparency and customer support left me broke and forced me to borrow money from friends, despite having more than enough in my Wise account.
This experience has been a nightmare, and I want to warn everyone—Wise is not a trustworthy platform. They can shut down your account at any time, without warning, and leave you stranded. If you rely on them for daily transactions, think twice! I regret choosing Wise over a traditional bank, and I strongly advise others to avoid them at all costs.
Wise is holding people's money hostage, and their customer service is a joke. This is not just bad business—it feels like a scam.
DO NOT TRUST WISE!

I have been using this company for few years to send money from Canada to Croatia. It was all good, no complaints, until about 6 months ago, when I attempted 3 transfers in span of few days. ALL of them were rejected with message that "recipient account is blocked or closed. I knew this was not true, I get in touch with wise customer service but they would keep repeating the same story and blaming the bank overseas. I than took a trip to Croatia and while I was there I personally went to bank there to check/verify that everything was in order. They checked and confirmed that everything is okay on their end…. Fast forward to end of last year, once again I tried sending money with Wise, and once again transfer did not go through. I gave up on wise and used company XE -to send money. Transfer was slower but it DID go through with NO issues. After that I contacted wise AGAIN, had to wait 1 HOUR before they answered the call. I explained everything again in details, sent them a PROOF that transfer with XE went through. However, they keep repeating same old FALSE story like PARROTS:: "account closed / account blocked". They REFUSE to take an ownership of the problem, refuse to fix it- but rather blame everyone else.
BIG disappointment, not professional, not good enough…

Be careful do not use
November 4, 2024

I ordered some things from China and one was not the right dimensions that were on the site The only payment they would accept was Wise so i used my credit card to fund it thinking it would give me some protection but it didn't. I was given details to return it and promised a refund of the bag and postage costs return to china from the UK i posted it through Royal
Mail international tracked and signed for on 13
October. It has been sitting in Shenzen customs since
23 October, waiting for the recipient to provide some paperwork which she obviously hasn't as it is still there. When I contact her im told to wait.
Ive read that some Chinese sellers don't bother to pick up the parcel from customs so they don't have to refund vou I reported this scam to Action fraud. Got a crime no and telephoned wise They said they would escalare it to try and get my money back

Betraying people
September 18, 2024

Wise is recently betraying people about they own money using their TLC. They just block your account keeping your money and it takes 60 working days to get it back. This I call criminal activities, thousands of people going through the same I am going through, costumer service is a chatbot so they basically don't care, be warned and tell my story as much as you can to other people to warn them as well

Worst customer service!
September 5, 2024

Do not use this app. This is the only financial institution that will block access to your card without properly reviewing their own policy! Their customer service is the worst and is in no way comparable to real banks like Chase or Wells Fargo.

They disabled my debit card because I informed them I gave it to my parents to use in Korea. Their policy clearly states that you can have authorized users, and the account holder will be fully responsible for all transactions. Knowing this, I approved my family to use the card.

Even after their agent made a mistake, there was no apology, and I was threatened with blocked communication or termination of my account. As soon as I found out this company can put a block on my account for letting my parents use my funds, I pulled all my money out. There is no need to threaten me about where I can keep my money or who I can allow to use it.

My experience with support has been quite disappointing. Their response time is slow, their assistance is limited, and they are not particularly helpful. Even a straightforward issue like mine has been unresolved for over a week because they claim to need 5-7 business days to respond.

Absolutely the worst! The customer service is horrible!
When an ACH did not arrive after a week, I spoke with Natalie who was very unhelpful and gave the usual runaround about she is very sorry and did nothing to resolve the situation. And they had the gall to charge me $13 when most banks charge nothing. Steer clear!

Without valid reasons Wise closed our business and personal accounts. The result was that I could not access our accounts anymore and it took me more than 6 months and lots of emails to get the money from my balances back. Because I could/can not access the accounts I am not sure if they refunded me everything.

They closed my account without previous notice or explanation afterwards. It's been over 15 days and still no news about the money I had in the account. Obviously, I was not doing anything illegal or against their policies. I will start legal action soon.

Their transfer fees are very competitive and often lower than any other provider, and they appear to offer the best exchange rates in real-time.
Transferring money directly to your US bank from a foreign country can cost thousands more. My bank's exchange rate (Chase) pays $0.02 less than the current exchange rate, which can add up to a substantial amount when transferring a large sum of foreign currency. I received my funds from Australia and held them in AUD in my Wise account until the exchange rate was acceptable. I then converted AUD to USD and transferred the funds to my bank for a small Wise transfer fee, saving me thousands of $.
New for 2024, Wise is offering 4.85% APY on USD, and they are also paying interest for currency held in euros and pounds. I'm very impressed with their services, their website, and how easy it is to navigate. I have not used their App yet, so I can't speak to the usability and performance.
